Choosing a floor
Pick the question closest to yours.
Start with the room
SPC — Kitchen, pets, spills. Rigid core, waterproof, and dent-resistant. A strong choice for kitchens and busy rooms.
Glue-down LVT — Bathrooms and wet rooms. Water-resistant vinyl, bonded to the subfloor, so it can go under kitchen units.
Laminate — Wood look, simpler fit. Click-fit and water-resistant. Suits most rooms, including kitchens. Float it around units, not under them.
Engineered wood — Real wood surface. A hardwood layer on a plywood base. Can be glued or floated, and refinished depending on thickness.
Will herringbone look right, including in a small room?
Herringbone is the style people ask about most, including Desert Oak. It reads busier than straight planks, so in a small room a lighter colour and a centred starting line keep the pattern calm. Order 15% extra for cuts, and dry-lay the pattern before anything is fixed.
Watch the herringbone fitting video for tools, subfloor prep and how the planks lock.
Not published yet. Customers also ask for photos in natural light, and fitters report planks with no left/right variation to kick into place. The site does not explain pack A and pack B, or how a specific range locks.
Did this answer your question?
What is the benefit of 12mm over 8mm?
Thickness is printed on each product page. A thicker board is generally stiffer. Whether 12mm is worth it depends on that product, the subfloor and any underfloor heating limit.
Not published yet. There is no site-wide answer comparing 12mm and 8mm. This needs a short, checked explanation per floor type.
Did this answer your question?
Should I choose click or glue-down?
Click floors lock together and float. They suit a DIY fit, and they need an expansion gap, so they go around kitchen units rather than underneath them. Laminate and SPC are click. Some engineered wood is click too.
Glue-down floors are bonded to the subfloor. That is the usual method for LVT, and an option for engineered wood. Units can then sit on top. Glue-down needs a clean, flat, dry subfloor.
Did this answer your question?
Can it go over tiles, concrete or an existing floor?
Yes, if the existing floor is fixed down and in good condition. Ask your fitter to confirm it for the product you have chosen.
Concrete must be dry before a wood or laminate floor goes down. A damp proof membrane is a fitter’s decision for that slab, not something every product includes.
Not published yet. Customers ask whether glue-down LVT needs separate insulation over latex, and whether LVT can go straight over tile. The site only says the existing floor must be secure and sound.
Did this answer your question?
Is it suitable for a kitchen, dogs, or regular mopping?
SPC is waterproof and dent-resistant, so it is the usual recommendation for kitchens, pets and spills. LVT is water-resistant and scratch-resistant. Laminate is water-resistant and fine for most rooms, including kitchens, but it should not be soaked.
Do not use a steam mop on laminate, LVT, SPC or engineered wood. Clean spills quickly, use a pH-neutral cleaner, and keep pet nails trimmed. Felt pads under furniture and a mat at the door prevent most scratches.
Did this answer your question?
Will it warp on underfloor heating?
Engineered wood, LVT, SPC and certain laminates are suitable. Keep the floor surface under 27°C, use the underlay the product page specifies, and acclimatise the boards first. Check the product page, because not every laminate range is approved.

Beading and underlay
Pick the question closest to yours.
What colour reducer or beading matches my floor?
Match the accessory to the floor’s colour name. Desert Oak flooring takes Desert Oak beading, a reducer or nosing where that colour is sold. Sahara Oak works the same way. The trim covers the expansion gap, a change in height, or the edge of a step.
- Beading or scotia covers the expansion gap where the floor meets the wall or skirting.
- A reducer bridges a small step down to a lower floor.
- Nosing finishes the edge of a step or a landing.
If the accessory page does not list your colour, do not guess. Email the floor name to help@floorstreet.co.uk and we will confirm the closest trim before you order. You can also add beading to an order that has not been dispatched yet.
Not published yet. There is no matching chart. “What colour reducer matches Desert Oak?” is one of the most repeated questions, and the page currently cannot answer it without a person.
Did this answer your question?
Do I need underlay, and which one?
Most SPC already has underlay attached. Check the product description before you add a second layer.
Click laminate and floating engineered wood usually need a separate underlay, unless the product says one is already fitted. Glue-down LVT is stuck to the subfloor, so a separate underlay is not the normal build-up. The product page is the source for that floor.
Not published yet. Customers ask for a named product: acoustic 3mm rubber underlay with a damp proof membrane, and whether insulation is separate on glue-down LVT over latex. Those answers are not on the site.

Stair runners
Pick the question closest to yours.
How do I know if a 7 metre runner is enough?
Measure one step: the tread (the flat part) plus the riser (the vertical part). Multiply by the number of steps the runner will cover, then add any landing it has to cross. Compare that total with the length on the product page.
If the staircase turns, or has more than 14 steps, we can make the runner to the staircase using a template. Message us on WhatsApp to start a bespoke runner. The fitting guide is on how to fit a stair runner.
Not published yet. The site does not say how many straight steps a standard length covers, so “is 7 metres enough?” still needs a worked example.
Did this answer your question?
My stairs are 770mm. Can you make an 850mm runner?
A runner is a strip down the middle of the stairs, with stair showing on both sides. Measure the stair width and compare it with the width on the product page. It should sit inside the stair, not overhang it.
Wall-to-wall stair carpet, covering the full width, is a different product from a runner. Our published bespoke service is for turning stairs and staircases with more than 14 steps.
Not published yet. The site does not list standard runner widths, or say whether a one-off width such as 850mm can be made. It also does not say whether runners arrive pre-taped.
Did this answer your question?
How long does a stair runner take to arrive?
Stair runner delivery times are on the shipping policy. Express delivery in 1–2 working days is £25, for stair runners only, and is subject to the options shown at checkout.

How much to order
Pick the question closest to yours.
How many square metres are in a box?
Coverage is on the product page and changes by range. Measure the room length times width, in metres, to get square metres. Then use the calculator on that product, which rounds up to whole packs.
Add 10% for straight planks and 15% for herringbone or angled layouts. Select “Add waste” when you order. The extra covers cuts and keeps you in the same batch if a board is damaged.
Did this answer your question?
What are spare packs, and why does the return form ask for them?
Spare packs are the unopened boxes you did not fit. Ordering a little extra is normal. If you have unopened boxes left, with the seal intact, they can go back under the returns rules. The form asks what you are sending so the warehouse can match the boxes to your order.
Not published yet. The returns page does not define the “spare packs” field. People filling in the form currently have to ask.
Did this answer your question?
How do I measure the room?
Follow measuring your room, or the measuring video. Measure each area, including alcoves, then add the waste allowance above.

Samples
Pick the question closest to yours.
How sample credit works
- Order while signed in The credit is tied to the account, and the email, used for the sample order.
- It appears at checkout When you buy the floor, the sample amount shows as credit. No code.
- The full cost comes off You pay for the floor, not the samples.
I ordered a sample without an account. How do I use the credit?
Sign in with the same email address you used for the samples, then check out. The credit is applied there.
If you checked out as a guest and the credit is not there, email help@floorstreet.co.uk with the sample order number and the email you want the credit on.
Did this answer your question?
Can I order a sample to Belfast or Northern Ireland?
Yes. We deliver to Northern Ireland. Samples and small accessories are usually free in 1–3 working days, and the checkout shows the charge for your address. Some parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland have a small extra charge. We do not deliver to the Republic of Ireland.
Did this answer your question?
My samples have not arrived
Samples normally go out in 1–3 working days. If that has passed, or tracking says delivered and nothing has arrived, email help@floorstreet.co.uk with the order number. We will check it with the courier.
Did this answer your question?
The sample is too small to judge the colour
A sample shows the colour and the texture in your own light. It is not a full plank. For a larger view, book the Bearwood showroom. It is open by appointment, and the published opening time is Saturday, 9am to 6pm.
Not published yet. People also ask to swap a stair runner sample, and say the sample bundle will not let them choose. Neither flow is explained on the site.

Price and codes
Pick the question closest to yours.
Can you price 100 square metres, or beat the price online?
The product page prices by the pack and by the square metre, and the calculator scales that up for the area you enter, including waste. That is the price to use for a large room.
We do price match an identical product from a UK retailer who sells direct to the public, has it in stock, and can deliver within 7 working days. You need to send a quote. It does not apply during a sale, on samples, or after you have already ordered that product. Start on the price match page or WhatsApp.
Did this answer your question?
My discount code will not apply
A code fails when it has expired, the basket includes items the offer excludes, or a sale is already running. Price match also cannot be used during a sale. An order cannot be cancelled and placed again just to use a code. The original order stands.
If the code should still work, email help@floorstreet.co.uk with the code and a screenshot of the basket.
Not published yet. Customers ask about an NHS discount, Student Beans free delivery, trade pricing, a first-order offer, and when a percentage sale ends. None of those is a standing rule on the site. Only list an offer while it is actually live.

Delivery
Pick the question closest to yours.
Is there a delivery window, or just a day?
You choose the date at checkout, and that date is confirmed by email. On the day, deliveries run Monday to Friday, between 8am and 6pm. There is not a narrower slot than that.
Someone must be in to sign. The driver may call ahead. If nobody is home, a redelivery charge can apply. Some couriers send a tracking link on the day. That is not guaranteed. If you are unsure, contact us.
Pallet deliveries are kerbside, from a vehicle that needs fire-engine access. You move the flooring inside from there. If the road is narrow, say so in the checkout comments. If we are not told and the lorry cannot get in, the order may not arrive and a redelivery fee can apply.
Did this answer your question?
How much does delivery cost, and how long does it take?
Delivery is free for most of England and Wales. Scotland is £75 to £90 for flooring, with samples and stair runners free, and accessories at £9. Some addresses in Northern Ireland have a small charge. The checkout shows the price for your postcode.
- Next-day, for most products and most UK areas: order before 12pm, Monday to Thursday, and check the dates at checkout. Express in 1–2 working days is £49 where it is offered.
- Samples and small accessories: usually 1–3 working days, free.
- We deliver across the UK, including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We do not deliver to the Republic of Ireland. Delivery outside the UK is not offered on the site.
If a date is greyed out, that day is not available for the product or the address. Full tables are on the shipping policy.
Did this answer your question?
Do you deliver on Saturdays?
No. Flooring deliveries are Monday to Friday. If you cannot be in on the date you chose, move it at least 72 hours ahead.
Did this answer your question?
Can you move the delivery? I will be away.
Yes. Email help@floorstreet.co.uk at least 72 hours before the delivery date. Changes inside 72 hours may be charged, because the order may already be with the courier.
We can also hold an order in the warehouse for up to four months, free. Give us at least 7 days’ notice when you want it delivered. If a delay is on our side, there is a 10 working day grace period. Inside that window we cannot cancel, refund or pay compensation. After it, you can ask for a full refund, without compensation.
Did this answer your question?
Tracking says delivered, but nothing arrived
Email help@floorstreet.co.uk the same day with your order number, and check around the property in case a pallet was left at the kerb. We will take it up with the courier. The same applies if a sample is marked delivered and has not turned up.
Did this answer your question?
Can the driver leave it if nobody is home?
Deliveries are signed for. If you want the order left on the drive or outside, give that permission in the checkout comments or by contacting us before the day. Without it, the driver will not leave the order, and a missed delivery can mean a redelivery fee.

Returns and changes
Pick the question closest to yours.
Can I return unopened boxes, and when is the refund paid?
You have 30 days from the delivery date to return items if you change your mind. Packs must be unopened, seal intact, in the original packaging, and in a resaleable condition. You arrange the carrier, you pay the return postage, and you include a completed return form. Without the form the refund is not processed. Use the return form.
- Before dispatch, within 14 days of ordering: full refund. After 14 days, cancellation fees apply, for example £40 per pallet per week.
- In transit: refund minus delivery costs, if we can stop the order.
- After delivery: refund minus delivery fees, once the goods are back and resaleable, inside 30 days.
Not published yet. The site does not say how many days a refund takes to reach a bank, or how to fill in the collection date when the form will not submit. If the form fails, email help@ with the order number rather than waiting.
Did this answer your question?
The order is damaged, the wrong colour, or a box short
Damaged in transit. Accept the delivery, take photos, and sign for it as damaged. If the damage is inside the packs, email the photos to help@floorstreet.co.uk as soon as you see it.
Wrong items. Do not accept the delivery. Tell the driver and contact us straight away. If you have already accepted it, send a photo of what arrived.
A box short, or planks that will not click. Count the packs against the delivery note before you fit anything. Email us the same day with the order number and photos of the joint and the batch label. Once flooring is installed, the buyer and the fitter have accepted it.
Did this answer your question?
Can I cancel one item, add beading, or change 10 packs to 3?
Yes, if the order has not been dispatched. Email sales@floorstreet.co.uk or help@floorstreet.co.uk as soon as you can. Adding an accessory before dispatch does not mean a second delivery charge.
You can cancel within 14 days of ordering for a refund. After 14 days, cancellation fees apply. You cannot cancel and reorder the same goods just to use a sale or a discount code.

Payment keeps asking me to approve it in my banking app
That prompt is your bank confirming the payment. Approve it, then come back to the checkout and wait for the order confirmation. If the page fails, do not keep retrying immediately. Email help@floorstreet.co.uk with the time, the amount and the email on the order, and we will check whether the payment went through.

Fitting and warranty
Pick the question closest to yours.
Do you fit floors? I cannot see it on the site.
Floor Street sells flooring. We do not fit it. We can introduce independent local fitters, and you pay them directly. Their work is guaranteed by them. The flooring itself is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
The usual order of work: order samples, price the area on the product page, buy the floor and accessories, then ask us for a fitter when you are ready. If you do not see a fitter for your area, contact us and we will check.
Did this answer your question?
Do I take the flooring out of the boxes to acclimatise it?
All flooring needs time in the room before it is fitted. Laminate, LVT and SPC: 24 to 48 hours. Engineered wood: at least 72 hours, with the boxes opened. Keep the room at a normal living temperature, about 18–22°C, and humidity around 40–60%.
Did this answer your question?
Should kitchen units go in before the floor?
Floating click floors, such as laminate and SPC, should not run under kitchen units. Fit them around the units, then add kickboards and side panels. Glue-down floors, such as LVT or glued engineered wood, can run wall to wall, with the units on top.
Did this answer your question?
Can I visit the Bearwood showroom, or collect a box today?
The showroom is at Merchant House, Beakes Road, Birmingham, B67 5RS. Visits are by appointment. The published opening time is Saturday, 9am to 6pm. The phone team is here Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm.
Same-day collection of a box is not listed as an option. Ask us before you travel. Contact and directions.
Did this answer your question?
How long is the warranty, and does it cover commercial use?
Flooring warranties run from 10 to 25 years and come from the manufacturer, not from Floor Street. The length for your floor is on its product page. A claim needs an independent inspection.
Stair runners have a lifetime warranty from Floor Street for manufacturing defects. It does not cover everyday wear. Details are on the warranty page.
Not published yet. The site does not say whether a flooring warranty includes commercial use.
