The following equipment is needed to fit your DIY Stair Runner:

Tape Measure
Hammer
Aviation Snips
Staple Gun
Laying Tool
Grippers
Adhesive Spray
Carpet Underlay
Grippers

Ensure your stairs are painted, clean and free of debris. This will make sure your stair runner will sit flat on each step with no dirt underneath.

Grippers

Measure the distance inside of the runner border and cut your grippers to match. This will allow for a securely gripped stair runner.

Place two grippers on each step to check you have the correct number of grippers.

Ensure the distance either side of the grippers is equal (note down measurement). Giving you a straight and equal Stair Runner.

From the previous measurement, take a spare piece of gripper and cut to the size. Making it easier to measure the grippers.

Use the spacer to ensure the gripper is central. Leave a fingers gap between step and the gripper. Giving an equal and straight Stair Runner.

Secure Gripper with hammer. Hammering down all the nails to your stair.

Secure second gripper perpendicular to the first gripper, again hammering in the nails to secure the grippers to your stairs.

Underlay

Slide underlay up to the gripper and secure using a staple gun for a tight snug fit.

Run the underlay down the step relatively tightly and secure with a staple gun. It is important that the underlay is smooth on each step.

Repeat this for all steps, until all steps are covered.

Secure Grippers

To further secure the grippers, you can use a staple gun.

Stair Runner

Starting from the top step, ensure the runner is central. You can create a spacer each side to help with the other steps.

Spray a generous layer of adhesive onto the underlay before laying down the stair runner carpet.

Using the laying tool, secure the runner into the step, go over this number of times for a tight fit to make sure it will not come undone.

Use the staple gun to firmly secure the runner down. This will ensure it will not move.

Keep rolling out the runner and repeat on each step. Ensure the runner is tugged tightly for the cleanest fit on each step.

That is your DIY Stair Runner now complete!
