Joint Filling Joint filling is not required or recommended for engineered wood floors. Small natural gaps between planks allow for the floor's natural movement with changes in temperature and humidity — this is normal and intentional. Sanding No sanding is needed after installation. One of the great long-term benefits of engineered wood is that the wear layer can be lightly sanded and refinished in the future if needed — but this is only ever required years down the line, not at installation.
