Why Wastage Is Included

When ordering flooring, extra material is always required to allow for cuts, corners, doorways, and natural variations in room shape. Wastage also helps cover adjustments during installation and reduces the risk of delays or shortages on site.

How We Calculate Wastage

Our calculator automatically includes the appropriate wastage allowance in your order.

  • 10% Wastage is applied for standard room layouts and straightforward installations. This is the UK industry standard.
  • 15% Wastage is applied for more complex spaces, such as multiple rooms, hallways, patterned layouts (including herringbone), or areas with lots of angles and obstacles.

You don’t need to select or calculate anything — the system adjusts this for you based on your requirements.

What This Means for You

  • No guesswork or manual calculations
  • Enough material for a clean, professional finish
  • Confidence that your order is correctly sized

By building wastage directly into the calculation, we make sure your flooring project runs smoothly from start to finish.

Q&A

Once install is complete, does the floor need to be jointed fillled, sanded and seale?
Great question! The short answer is no — your Paradise Herringbone Engineered floor comes pre-finished from the factory, which means it arrives ready to enjoy straight after installation. No sanding, filling, or sealing is required. Here's a quick breakdown of why: Pre-Finished from the Factory These engineered floors are finished with multiple coats of UV-cured oils before they leave the factory, giving you a smooth, durable, ready-to-use surface from day one. This is one of the key advantages of engineered wood over traditional solid wood, which often requires sanding and finishing on-site after installation. Joint Filling Joint filling is not required or recommended for engineered wood floors. Small natural gaps between planks allow for the floor's natural movement with changes in temperature and humidity — this is normal and intentional. Sanding No sanding is needed after installation. One of the great long-term benefits of engineered wood is that the wear layer can be lightly sanded and refinished in the future if needed — but this is only ever required years down the line, not at installation. Sealing The factory finish provides the protection your floor needs. No additional sealer is required. Simply install, clean away any dust, and enjoy your new floor!
Can this wood be used as a traditional parquet floor
Hi, Thank you for your question. Yes, this floor can absolutely be installed as a traditional parquet floor. It is a genuine herringbone engineered wood product, supplied in individual left and right (A & B) boards, which allows it to be laid in the classic parquet pattern. Because it is tongue and groove engineered wood, it is typically installed by fully bonding (glue down) to the subfloor, which is the traditional method for parquet installations. This provides stability and reduces movement. It features a 3mm real oak wear layer, meaning it has the look and longevity associated with traditional parquet, but with the added stability benefits of engineered construction. That makes it more suitable for modern homes, including those with underfloor heating.
