Maintaining Your Laminate Flooring

Maintaining Your Laminate Flooring

One of the many benefits of Laminate flooring is that it’s hygienic and easy to clean and maintain.

General Cleaning

To keep your flooring looking brand new, remove daily dirt by sweeping, vacuuming, and wiping with a clean, damp cloth. This will help prevent any loose dirt and debris from scratching your flooring while keeping it looking its best. To remove dirty footprints, use a damp mop, but note that damp cleaning should be done only occasionally. Ensure your mop is not too wet by wringing out excess water before use; a micro fiber mop is recommended. For regular cleaning, use 'soap-free' cleaners to maintain your floor's pristine appearance.

Maintenance & Up-Keep

Proper maintenance is essential to preserve the appearance and extend the lifespan of your laminate flooring. In areas with heavy foot traffic, more frequent maintenance is necessary.

Furniture & Laminate Flooring

Taking external conditions into account can prevent flooring damage and reduce cleaning time. Dirt is often brought indoors by foot traffic, and if trapped under sliding furniture, it can scratch the floor. To prevent damage, use protective felt pads on furniture feet. For existing damage, such as scratch marks, a floor repair kit is highly effective.

Entrance mats

Minimise the risk of slips and falls and prevent floor soiling by using entrance mats. When properly maintained, entrance mats effectively remove abrasive materials and reduce water tracking from foot traffic, helping to keep your laminate flooring clean and free of marks.

  • Avoid using entrance mats that have rubber or latex backing/edging as this may cause staining.
  • Regular cleaning of your entrance mat and the area surrounding it is strongly advised.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: To ensure optimum maintenance and care, we would advise that the following advice be followed:

  • Wiping up any accidental spills as quickly as possible will help minimise the chance of staining.
  • Do not use a steam mop or steam cleaning appliances when cleaning your laminate floor.
  • Take caution after mopping the floors as wet laminate can become slippery.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaning equipment or floor wax on your laminate flooring.
